SJSU Men’s Rugby Alumni Tailgate Recap

SJSU Men’s Rugby hosted their first ever alumni tailgate complete with merchandise, Matt Cluin’s homemade Texas chili cooked on site, burgers and beef franks, and plenty of water, soda, and other tasty beverages. The atmosphere was festive, the weather was great, and best of all was being surrounded by men’s and women’s rugby alumni and active players, coaches, friends, and family. Two blue tents and a large men’s rugby alumni banner welcomed alumni and family – we had a great spot, highly visible and easy to find. It was great to see so many people come out to celebrate being together on the occasion of a momentous Spartan football game. Thank you to Brian Burke for initially suggesting we hold a tailgate. Special thanks to Matt Cluin for his work to make this event special. The feedback we’ve received so far was entirely positive. Here’s what one alumni said, “I met so many new faces and connected with a variety of alumni, learned a ton and met some of the current players.” One alum wondered about who put on the event, so we know there is more we can do to improve communication in the myriad ways alumni want to receive info. Some prefer to use the existing OG Facebook page. Others prefer email, while some prefer text. Still others are using What’s App to communicate. We will do our best to promote events and communicate information across all platforms as much as possible. But we do encourage you to find at least 2 ways that you would like to get the information. One of the things we experienced was that many of the alumni who attended actually brought other alumni who weren’t aware of the event beforehand through our messaging efforts, probably because we didn’t have their info.
